You empty, I empty
What does it mean for God to become man?
This is what I’ve been wrestling with for days now. I put the finishing touches on a paper late last night that dealt with Kenotic Christology, based on the hymn in Philippians 2:
5Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7but made himself...

Towards Redemption, Towards Others
Can something have the appearance of life….
of growth…
of perfection…
of achievement,
and yet be devoid of any real hope…
or goodness…
or substance…
or power?
When I dwell on that it forces me to wrestle with what things we’ve worshipped and glorified that is hollow…
shallow,
fading,
temporal,
damaged,
or rotten.

the Other
What does it mean for us to interact with the Other?
To find space.
Distance.
Relationship.
Absence.
Nearness.
What does it look like to relate to someone else?

Guided beyond the grasp and reach of humanity, it’s destination is both known and mysterious; a paradox of reality and something greater.
For those who listen,
with honesty,
sincerity, and humility,
there’s a clear call: follow suit,...
Jesus turned the "Power" on its head
What does it mean that Jesus flipped the power switch? Or, more radically, he went headlong into the human concept of power and rearranged it. Flipped it. Disoriented everyone so that he coud reorient them to a proper use of power.
Ephesians 6:12 reads,
“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty...
Stop Idolizing Contextual Community
I’m always intrigued when people reference the second chapter of the book of Acts for a qualitative definition of Community. I agree, it’s a good description of Community/a Community.
In fact, it’s a good description of life and faith in general.
But it’s a little romantic to speak as if that’s what our Community must resemble or it’s not “real...
