This morning my wife did a fabulous job of leading staff chapel. She had told me that she wanted to do something that would help shape the rest of the day for our staff.
The whole experience focused around the idea of “restoration.” We sang songs, had scripture read over us, she spoke briefly about restoration in her life, and we collectively read some cool pieces that talked about God as Love.
It was a very beautiful and calming experience. And completely sad that it’s not the norm for us.
We were challenged to meditate on the idea of restoration all day.
Shouldn’t we do that anyways?
We are, after all, people of restoration.
It is our identity.
How could we go without reflecting on it and even living in that reality.
When Jesus says his followers will be known by their love for other, he’s saying something Big. He’s saying that they should live in the path of restoration. In light of restoration. As agents of restoration.
And this means that restoration/reconciliation is a major theme of their identity.
It means it’s something they can not escape.
If you’re a male, can you go without being a male? You can’t regularly decide to go to the women’s room instead, just because you feel like it. If you’re a runner, doesn’t that identity shape the rest of your day? Sure you occasionally make bad decisions (ex: eating), but for the majority of your days you’d have your time shaped to maximize that identity (or else you wouldn’t actually be a runner).
Do you neglect what should be your identity?
