So Hard to Resist Meat
Yesterday I ate meat.
Which isn’t that weird, except that for a few minor incidents, I didn’t eat meat for the entire month of January.
Incident = my wife told me one of the ingredients listed in a stuffed mushroom at Buca was “cheese” when it was in fact bacon. Didn’t take more than one mushroom to figure that out.
It wasn’t about anything but a pure experiment in health benefits. I was particularly interested in how it might affect my energy level. It wasn’t bad—for the most part I ate healthier, and I think I did have more energy and less headaches. Since a month is not really a ton of time to try something out, I’ll probably continue to make vegetarian food choices over the weeks to come. I have felt better on runs as of late.
But as a fun way to celebrate my (almost) month of vegetarian living (technically pescatarian), I wanted to list the 10 restaurants that I couldn’t continue to resist meat from:
1. Benihana’s. What would a night of hibachi vegetables, fried rice, and sake be without a nice, medium rare filet mignon?
2. Pluckers. Ever had their Bakers Gold hot wing sauce? Mmmm. Mmmmm. Mmmmm.
3. Chik-fil-a. Enough said.
4. In-N-Out Burger. Okay, so I don’t actually live near one. But the thought of being banned from a double-double animal style makes me cry a little. On the inside.
5. Texadelphia. Cheesesteaks aren’t very good without the steak.
6. Mariano’s Hacienda. Best steak fajitas EVER.
7. Q’Doba. The veggie burrito at Chipotle is actually pretty good, but the lack of meat in my queso burrito leaves a little something to be desired.
8. Burger House. Best burger in Texas. Book it.
9. Little Dooey’s. Again, I don’t live near it (Starkville). But the best BBQ in the country will be consumed the next time I’m in NE Mississippi.
10. Krystal’s. Gross? You’re gross.
Last night I celebrated meat with a nice steak salad at home. I had fun with the grill, even if it took my over an hour to get the coals ready and get the steak cooked. Anywhere you couldn’t eat without being tempted by the meat?
