Human Depravity.
It means that the highest of the Created Order is wicked, wicked, wicked.
If we truly grasp this and don’t get lost in arrogant suspicion or pride, there can be tremendous effects on our lives. Think about it: embracing our brokenness will ultimately lead to the ability to empathize with other humans.
Us = bad, God = Good.
This contradiction should make us desperate for God. More and more and more of God, less and less of us. Less of us and more of God means more humility for us and more grace for humanity.
The more our depraved state makes us desperate for God, the better the chances are that we learn to let ourselves die and Christ live.
Ourselves… our desires, passions, convictions, commitments, time, money, family… all of this yielded to the power of the one who is not depraved.
Depravity can’t fix itself.
We can’t fix others.
All we can do is be open to God’s reconciling work in us and take steps to help others participate in the reconciliation.
Understanding depravity puts us in our place. Broken but interceding. Lost but yielded. Dying but living.
How can you let God shape you today? (hint: it will begin with you losing the control of shaping yourself…a very, very hard thing to do)
