I’ve heard lots of would-be prophets try and knock down the straw man.
Indeed I have made that effort.
To convince people that following Jesus is about a whole-life commitment, not about a mental ascension to a set of static principles.
And I believe that.
Except yesterday, after spending almost a week thinking on the subject of sin for different venues, it hit me that no one wants to address sin that way.
Sin = not about an academic agreement with a set of principles about the human, even individually human, condition.
I mean, let’s be honest, we’d like it to be that way. We’d like to be able to mentally label ourselves (and others) “sinners” that way we can tear that label right off and move on.
“Ok, yes, I’m a sinner, for reasons X, Y, & Z. I get it. Agreed.” And then we’re ready to move on.
But is it that simple?
