I have a weird, weird thought this morning. If I could have one superpower that helped me do my job better, it would be this:
I would have the power to shrink the Bible.

Two clarifications:
- Yes, I realize that’s not really a superpower. Trust me, I’d rather be able to fly or walk through walls or grill quesadillas with my hands. Humor me.
- No, I don’t mean shrink like that.
I want to help people grasp the scope of the Bible, for the entire book to get smaller and smaller.
For someone to read 1 John and understand where it fits into Genesis and Isaiah and Mark and 2 Corinthians.
I would love to be able to make the scope of the Bible graspable, to help others get the big picture. As you understand the whole of the two canons, you can see how each word and verse and book makes so much more sense as part of a unified whole.
That huge book needs to feel a lot smaller. Like a 10,000 square foot mansion that now seems small because you’re familiar with every nook and cranny.
I think as it gets smaller, it will become far more imaginatively expansive.
